From [livejournal.com profile] maxauburn :-

If The Doctor were real, and not a fictional character, and you could be his assistant, which Doctor would you want to travel the universe with?

Hmmm...  much as my favorite Doctor is Jon Pertwee, I think experiencing the sheer joy and exuberance of travelling with Tom Baker would have to win.

Remember, you have until March 31st. so ask away!

That's a great answer.

Tom Baker is my favorite Doctor.

After that, it's Jon Pertwee, then, David Tennant.

Funny, as we pull away from Tennant's reign of
having been the Doctor, I still adore his episodes.
But, it's the classic years (1963 to 1981) that
I love best, as these were the episodes - the
first four Doctors - that I saw first.

I watched those episodes - and recorded them - on PBS
during the 1980's.

Watching them all for the first time was one of the
many things that made being in my 20's memorable.

My first actual memory of Doctor Who was seeing Patrick Troughton running around an industrial complex in, what I later found out was, The Invasion, which would have been around 1969 aged around 4...

I was told by a man in a bar during summer 1979 to watch Doctor
Who.. I found it on PBS.. watched part 1 of " The Sontaran Experiment." I didn't like it, and didn't watch again.

Until fall of 1983. My partner at the time, George, saw how upset I was at events unfolding in my life back then.

" Get in bed and stopping carrying on. We can watch tv for a few hours."

" What's on?", I asked.

" I think Doctor Who is on now."

" Oh, no! I saw that once! It sucks!", I told him.

" C'mon. Give it a chance. Get in the bed.", he demanded,
pulling the covers off the side of the bed that I slept on.

I got in bed, our two cats joined us, and George turned on PBS -
channel 12.

Doctor Who was just coming on.

The episode was " The Time Monster.", starring Jon Pertwee, as the 3 rd Doctor.

I didn't like it at first. I had decided not to.

A third through the 2 hour plus episode, I began to like it.

Halfway through, I liked it more.

" How did you like that?", George asked me, right after the episode had ended.

" I loved it! Can we watch Doctor Who again next Saturday?" I asked, excitedly.

" Sure, but I thought you hated Doctor Who?", George smiled. He was very good at subtle sarcasm.

" Don't be such a cunt!", I said, and we both laughed.

That's the story of how I came to like Doctor Who.

" The Time Monster" will always be very special to me.
It was my first episode.
