hantsbear: (In The Park)
I decided I was going to get myself a tablet, so the plan was to go to John Lewis in Leicester on Saturday to review what they had and possibly make a purchase.  I tend to trust John Lewis staff (or colleagues - the chain is run much like a co-operative) know what they are talking about when they give advice.  Unfortunately, the English Defence League were having a demonstration in the city center and Best Beloved forbade me from traveling there.

So, instead, made a trip out to Nottingham instead.  I still miss Nottingham - I moved away about 4 years ago now.  I know that a lot of places around there have memories of [livejournal.com profile] rock_bear but there are loads of memories I created for myself there.  None the less, as I entered the Victoria Centre, I gave a growl of supplication.  The John Lewis in Nottingham had got tablets in stock and, even better, the cute furry salesman who has been there years and, I think, sold me a camera once.

Only problem is, stayed up late last night playing with new toy.  Oh well, will just have to sleep on the coach this morning as I head down to The Smoke to meet [livejournal.com profile] albadger...

Well, actually, I was back on the 26th. after a fairly uneventful journey in the care of KLM, to be greeted by an ecstatic best beloved, who had the foresight to pick up groceries on the way.  He's too good for me, you know.  Not that I am complaining, of course!!!

Quick round-up of what happened:
  • Was introduded to "The Revenger's Tragedy" by [livejournal.com profile] albadger
  • Spent a night at the opera with [livejournal.com profile] albadger , seeing "The Makropulos Case"
  • Went into the hills and around the University of  Berkley with [livejournal.com profile] progbear
  • Ate Ethiopian food for the first time with [livejournal.com profile] darkphuque and [livejournal.com profile] theotherqpc
  • Saw "Hot Fuzz" for the first time with [livejournal.com profile] bestbear_icanbe.  Why did I miss this first time around???
  • Went to SF Zoo koala hunting.  This time, there was a koala outside, but quite high up and so not so easy to photograph.
  • Met up with [livejournal.com profile] furr_a_bruin , [livejournal.com profile] albadger and [livejournal.com profile] dhpbear at the Lone Star.
  • Met up with [livejournal.com profile] fogbear and[livejournal.com profile] putzmeisterbear at Beer Bust.
  • Met [livejournal.com profile] tmaher[livejournal.com profile] dhpbear and [livejournal.com profile] bestbear_icanbe  for the first time
  • Did the "Tales of the City" thing - took the cable car up Powell to find Macondray Lane.
  • Visited [livejournal.com profile] beastbriskett and [livejournal.com profile] flawsofur
And much walking up and down hills and jumping on and off buses, street cars, BART trains etc.  Including falling asleep on the BART in the tunnel under the bay...!

Many thanks and hugs to [livejournal.com profile] albadger and [livejournal.com profile] wet_in_sf  for putting up with me and to [livejournal.com profile] bestbear_icanbe for the package that awaited me on my return :)

Urf.
Ten hours in a KLM MD-11 and here I am in San Francisco.  Flight was packed to the rafters so was stuck in a window seat and had to climb over two others.  I hate 3 3 3 configurations.  Still, for once, the airline's food was good.
Currently sat in the lounge at [livejournal.com profile] albadger 's, buzzing on caffeine and decompressing...

And so another Fiesta ends.  It all went by so quickly; not helped by being incapacitated on Saturday.  [profile] wyndwyck dropped by last night; unfortunately, I was still flagging so it was but a short visit alas :(.  This morning was breakfast and goodbyes, with the thought in the back of my mind that this could be my last Fiesta for a while.  Which is a shame, as I always feel most welcome by the Tucsonites, particularly [profile] sonoranbear and Steve.  Okay, so it was a little nippy this year, but I've just arrived back in Denver to below freezing temperatures.  Went over to the Sushi Garden with [personal profile] albadger, then  to the airport for the trip back to Denver.  By happy coincidence, [personal profile] darke and [personal profile] jaybear were also waiting for their flights to Dallas, so passed the time and coffee with them.

Flight to Denver reasonably smooth and trouble free - Frontier Airlines highly recommended.

And I will be back to Fiesta.  It's just a matter of when.

Spent part of Friday afternoon with [personal profile] bitterlawngnome having some photos taken - I think he's posted one already.  Then pizza and headed out for ice cream with [personal profile] albadger.  Saturday morning, went to Waffle House for breakfast then to the Pima Air and Space Museum.  Unfortunately, the SR-71 was being re-located into a hanger, so I couldn't get a shot stood underneath it.  Then headed off to Bookmans for general wandering and admiring local furry critters.  I was feeling decidedly under the weather, so we stopped by Target to pick up some cold meds.  Spent the rest of Saturday feeling lousy, especially since I had to cancel the Rocky Horror trip - although after last year I suspect there was little enthusiasm to spend a couple of hours in the company of young homophobes in the making.

So many old friends.  So many new friends.  So many friends I haven't seen in a long time.  And by that, I mean two years, not one!   Arrived yesterday after stopping in New Mexico overnight in a proper American Motel, with a "Sanitsed For Your Protection" strip over the toilet seat.  And, yes, on the way down, we did take that left turn at Albuquerque.  Reception at the Clarion gave me the fright of my life when he told me that there was no reservation for me.  He thought there was a room for me and I gave him my ID.  Then he realised he'd spelt my name wrong... grr...  So, I staggered into my room and awaited the arrival of [personal profile] albadger who was sharing with me.

Spent yesterday afternoon in the hot tub with [profile] vmbear, amongst others, then headed off to El Charro Cafe, spending time with [personal profile] darke, [personal profile] jaybear and [profile] lostncove.

Just had a phone call from an agency wanting to put me forward for a job up in Glasgow working for Dell.  He seemed reasonably positive, but then most agents do.  However, I can see myself living in Glasgow; plenty of culture, reasonable bear scene and a decent international airport.

Watch this space...

The one thing I must never lose sight of is the number of people who love me.

"Oooh, I hope there are lots of pictures of me!!!"

This is one thing I can't get over since being in my current job.  I am now a manager.  Hmmm... still not used to that concept.  Or the fact that I have not gone pointy-haired yet.  The plus side is management courses (day out of the office and free food); the down side is staff.  Being as I have an innate desire to keep everybody happy (the great impossibility), I am frequently disappointed.  Story of my life, really...

Oh well, I am currently on the prowl for a new member of staff.  Somehow my suggestion of either [livejournal.com profile] albadger  or [livejournal.com profile] utahmtnbear didn't go down too well.  Rats.  So much for the harem idea then...

hantsbear: (Gamla Stan)

After what feels like an eternity, I woke up to rain this morning.  And a cub demanding coffee.  Ah yes, we'd been over to Bournemouth last night to the Bournemouth Bear Bash.  To be honest, unlike Manchester, where we more or less had the run of one of the venues, it was a pretty mixed crowd.  I didn't really feel like I enjoyed myself as much, so the Cub and I ventured back to Gosport about 1 am, getting to Hantsbear Towers about 2 am.  And falling in an undignified heap on the sofa.

Apart from that, have Skyped with [livejournal.com profile] utahmtnbear and [livejournal.com profile] albadger , and had a voicemail from  [livejournal.com profile] greasybiker ...

hantsbear: (that's mister cranky koala to you)
And so.
Life clicks back into its pre-Christmas; pre-Fiesta routine. Almost as if Fiesta never happened. Caveat: Almost. I know it happened; I have the pictures and I have the memories (although the bite marks have almost healed...!) New friends made; old friendships re-kindled; pie eaten. I feel quite heavy, and a little, well, lost, to put this feeling into words. Still, half day at work tomorrow; then up to Birmingham to see Russ for the weekend.
Round we go again.
hantsbear: (Manchester)

Make with the clicky, already! )

hantsbear: (Just me...)

...that is to say, [livejournal.com profile] albadger , [livejournal.com profile] robearal and [livejournal.com profile] progbear.  And an open-top PT Cruiser.

[Bad username or unknown identity: Hopefully more pics over the weekend - have got to get the disposable processed...!]

hantsbear: (flower bear)

Seem to have hit a quiet patch right now, just as I start the "brain candy" as [livejournal.com profile] albadger  describes it.  Well, so far, apart from the occasional attack of gyppy tummy and raging insomnia that hit me the night after the first pill, no noticeable side effects.  Have to check in with the doc next week, but otherwise okay.

Last time I spoke to [livejournal.com profile] rock_bear , he was sniffling his way around Devon in search of bikers and honey and lemon, poor love.  I'd say he was returning to civilisation on Sunday, but then I realised he was heading up to Southport, near Liverpool, so p'raps not.  I should add to that last comment that I have never actually been to Liverpool; I just made the comment on the offchance that some outraged bear from Liverpool will offer me an all expenses paid trip to, er, show me the sights...!

In the meantime, I now have an offer of Christmas entertainment from some old friends.  I am on a promise to make a Christmas Pudding; I'll probably have a go this weekend - mind you, they usually require quite a bit of steaming, if memory serves.  I think I've got most of the ingredients, including a drop of some of my favourite Otard cognac.  Well, maybe more than a drop...
