Weekend Check-in...

Visiting Dear Beloved Aged Parent this weekend.  Being plied with booze - probably made up for all the units I've been entitled to for the last few months in one evening and waking up with a very sore head...!  Learning Swedish this morning...

Sweedish? Really? That's cool!

I've been a student of Dutch for years -- even then I have trouble with the accent, but I can make sense of it. I have two bear friends who live on either side of the Oer Sound, and when I went to visit them I bought a tape so I could try to do some tourist Scandanavian, but I'll be f***ed if I can make head nor tails of the accent. There's like letters that don't seem to even be pronounced, or in a way that I can't imagine.

My mother, who used to sing in Swedish, said that they speak with their mouths almost closed, cause it's so cold there that their breath would freeze.

How do you manage? Are you planning on moving there?

Learning mainly because my sister has just moved to outside Gothenburg; started a Dutch class locally, but it was too slow for me (!)
