Enter The Cub...
Nov. 5th, 2005 02:52 pmAfter many interviews, we've more or less got enough people to fill the new 9 vacancies on the team. They've started to come through in dribs and drabs; this week, on Monday, the Cub started.
The Cub (Tom) has been interviewed twice; once when we had a permanent vacancy, and the boss asked me to sit in on the interview, while Sue (my deupty) and he interviewed. I maintained that I should have as little to do with the process as possible, as I has introduced him to the company. So the interview - talk about suppressed smouldering sexual tension! Needless to say, I think Tom was a little uncomfortable, and possibly didn't interview to his full potential. He was bypassed for the permanent vacancy, but when the 9 new temp posts were interviewed, he was called back for interview. This time I put my foot down and remained out of the interview. And to all intents and purposes, Tom interviewed a lot better. So, this time, we offered him the job.
Yes, it could be problematic managing a friend; however there is a layer of management between me and him; and I know if I have a dilemma I can speak to Allan (the boss) about it. It's quite amusing having the air of unfulfilled sexual tension floating around the office. And, if I'm honest, it may have some serious benefits - last night he suggested that he would be willing to go swimming with me after work.
