Hurrah, that is such a true statement, what people appear is never the truth, so people look happy and successful, I guess it depends how you measure those things.

Some of those people could envy you, as they may see a clean slate, an opportunity to start again, you don't know that they think they are better than you, and if they do those aren't people that deserve any of your thought. I think there is a lot of untapped potential in you, and you are getting there, just focus on the stuff that makes you happy.
