Caught the coach down from Coalville to London today and noticed that the franchisee for the coach was a Nottingham firm.  Climbed on board and showed the driver my ticket.  Then noticed that the driver was quite bear-y.  Then realised that I knew said bear - he was a friend of Russ [livejournal.com profile] rock_bear and we'd driven up to Manchester and back with him and his partner a few years ago.  So, of course, on arrival at Victoria Coach Station, managed to get a free hug off the driver.  That's personal service for you!

Those crazy Finns.  From the people who brought you the "Rare Exports" shorts (here), a full length.  Be afraid.  Be festively afraid.

Well, actually, I was back on the 26th. after a fairly uneventful journey in the care of KLM, to be greeted by an ecstatic best beloved, who had the foresight to pick up groceries on the way.  He's too good for me, you know.  Not that I am complaining, of course!!!

Quick round-up of what happened:
  • Was introduded to "The Revenger's Tragedy" by [livejournal.com profile] albadger
  • Spent a night at the opera with [livejournal.com profile] albadger , seeing "The Makropulos Case"
  • Went into the hills and around the University of  Berkley with [livejournal.com profile] progbear
  • Ate Ethiopian food for the first time with [livejournal.com profile] darkphuque and [livejournal.com profile] theotherqpc
  • Saw "Hot Fuzz" for the first time with [livejournal.com profile] bestbear_icanbe.  Why did I miss this first time around???
  • Went to SF Zoo koala hunting.  This time, there was a koala outside, but quite high up and so not so easy to photograph.
  • Met up with [livejournal.com profile] furr_a_bruin , [livejournal.com profile] albadger and [livejournal.com profile] dhpbear at the Lone Star.
  • Met up with [livejournal.com profile] fogbear and[livejournal.com profile] putzmeisterbear at Beer Bust.
  • Met [livejournal.com profile] tmaher[livejournal.com profile] dhpbear and [livejournal.com profile] bestbear_icanbe  for the first time
  • Did the "Tales of the City" thing - took the cable car up Powell to find Macondray Lane.
  • Visited [livejournal.com profile] beastbriskett and [livejournal.com profile] flawsofur
And much walking up and down hills and jumping on and off buses, street cars, BART trains etc.  Including falling asleep on the BART in the tunnel under the bay...!

Many thanks and hugs to [livejournal.com profile] albadger and [livejournal.com profile] wet_in_sf  for putting up with me and to [livejournal.com profile] bestbear_icanbe for the package that awaited me on my return :)

There was a new relief security guard in the office today; average size, short grey hair with a bald spot and a goatee.  He came over to me and introduced himself to me, asking if I was a biker.
"Ex-biker", I explained and we discussed bikes and eventually (surprise) the Hairy Bikers.  Later, my colleague (and self appointed Yenta) Amiee sidles over.
"You fancy him."
"I might..." I replied blushing slightly.
"I reckon there's an 82% chance he's gay," she responded.  82%?  Did she sit down with a calculator and work it out???  Anyway, later on in the day, during a subsequent conversation, he utters the "W" word.  I reported this back to Amiee, who was quite surprised.  Mohammed was listening in and snorted "Hah!  That doesn't mean anything!"

A friend has stated to me that I am preventing my own happiness and that I am determined to be miserable whatever the cost.  I am not sure that I agree 100% with that second statement, for this reason: I am a lot happier working for the Department for Work and Pensions than I was working for EDS, especially the last 6 months.  For one thing, I do not suffer from continual stress.  Sure, there are stressful occasions but not the constant pressure of supervising effectively the human equivalent of a battery farm.  Yes, the boss can be an irritating sod at times with some of his quirks but all in all he is, for the most part, considerate and human.

I think the first statement is aimed at my desire for a relationship of some sort.  Sure, I don't expect it to happen over night, but it was commented on a visit to The Fountain in Birmingham (the local bear bar) that I avoid eye contact with people who are interested in me.  Or am completely oblivious of them.  Compare two situations : Fiesta de los Osos - I don't seem to have a problem with eye contact or talking to people, and people talking to me.  Or is there something I'm not aware of?  The last Manbears event I went to - I was virtually ignored all evening, despite trying to make eye contact with people.

Oh well, I am due to meet a guy on Sunday afternoon, so we shall see what happens...

Ah!  February, and time once again for the good folk of Sweden to vote for their entry to that aural steeplechase that is the Eurovision Song Contest.  The Swedes take their time over selecting their entry - there are four heats and the winners of each heat go on to a final at the Globen in Stockholm.  Dear Darling Little Sister was trying to get tickets for the Göteborg heat, since my niece is a big fan of Schlager - a particularly Swedish form of pop music.  However, I have asked that a vote be cast in my favor for this guy:-
His name is Kalle Moraeus; one of the three brothers who are members of the folk group Orsa Spelman and, more particularly, who also happen to be members of Benny Anderssons Orkester.  In this video, he sings with the ever divine Helen Sjöholm.  In accordance with Melodifestivalen rules, the song is not yet available, but the heat where his song is due to be voted on is in Sandviken on Saturday, so it should be showing on the SVT Play website.  Lycka till!

I'm trying to get out and meet people a bit more.  I feel a bit like I've been a hermit this last year - only really seeing people over Christmas and New Year.  New Year, in particular, was a blast.  I got to meet new people to laugh and talk with.  So, going to try and keep up with that in 2010.  Tried to arrange a date with someone last weekend, and sat in Starbucks in Merry Hell Hill (a Westfield mall just outside Dudley) over a large Vanilla Latte for half an hour before realising said date was not going to turn out.  Found out afterwards, he thought we were meeting on Sunday.  Aha, but I have copies of all the instant messages.  Oh well, without wishing to sound too immodest, his loss!

Went up to Manchester to catch up with someone I speak to online.  The only annoying thing is that the rail company don't think it's somewhere people go to for a day, so I couldn't get a day return.   Grr.  Managed to speak to [livejournal.com profile] beastbriskett on the phone last night.  It was good to hear his voice again. I should ring people more often...

I'm not sure whether one event in particular triggered my coming out ten years ago.  Certainly, the internet played a big part in it; the discovering of bears and the fact that I was not the only person with my particular kinks through various searches online.  For many years, I had thought of myself as asexual; I tried a couple of heterosexual relationships because it seemed to be expected of me.  But it wasn't right.  Since High School and the bullying by a number of assholes because I was a sensitive sod.  Because somehow I was different.  Well, guess what f*ckers, I am different.  I'm not the downtrodden creature I once was.  I have evolved so much beyond that; blossomed you could say to someone who is a lot happier with himself than he was then.  Admittedly, a lot of self worth issues have been resolving themselves over more recent years, but coming out had an awful lot to do with the beginning of the journey to where I am today.

Sauna...

Went to the Bear Sauna over at Darlaston yesterday; partially to try and "pull"; partially to see what the sauna was like there and partially I needed to sauna and steam and linger in a spa bath.  Well, on the pulling front, I didn't score apart from advances from a rather too skinny and shaved twink whom I politely declined.  However, I like the facilities - a small swimming pool with a waterfall and a cavern behind; plenty of darkrooms and glory hole rooms; a nice conservatory and sun deck.  Altogether a much more gentleman's club-by atmosphere, and defintely somewhere to pass a rare summers day!!!
